End of a Era

Hey All, It's me Captain Toy again.

We are not starting back up with our show. I will provably use a new site to do that. Instead, I am informing you of sad news . . . L has died.

We all enjoyed his wit and good cheer and he WILL be missed.

Here is the comment I made on Odeo:

Finally Podfading . . .

Yes I am forced to use that term, we are podfading. . . I just don't have the time & energy anymore to keep up with the episodes and we have been having real trouble with meeting up to do the show.

However . . . .

Upon the end of this semster at school (around Mayish) I do plan to recreate Spock's Diner as an improv only show. It will be much shorter (about 15 minutes a show at most) and include anywhere from 2-5 mini episodes. I will also try to aquire a usb digital mixer by the time I attempt this so I can have guests appear on the show.

Here's looking forward to May! -- Captain Toy

Episode 9 & 1/2: Better Late than Never

Its been headache and both L and I have not been on the ball. As result this episode comes later than even expected, however it is just as good as the day it was made! Here's the info for the episode:

We batter storms, sickness, prior commitments, & bad recordings to bring you this show. We recorded an episode (episode 9) a while back but half of it was unusable so we have been forced to re-record. I will of course save it for a rainy day that we can't get together so you can bask in the spender of our mistakes. Enjoy this week's podcast!

INFO ON MOVIE NIGHT

Projected date 9/8/2006 - 9/26/2006 (Date to be determined)

We want to have as many people from the WNY area come over to my house and watch Star Trek as possible. For those who can't come we would love to try to get you in via skype. We may not be able to record us watching the episode (not sure how good the sound quality would be) but we can easily record the discussion afterwards. If you are coming, bring your own headset please or you will be forced to share the mic! Please note that this will be longer than an hour, please plan on it!

If interested, please email us to get on the show!

Frequently Asked Questions you never asked:

1.) Q: Who are you guys?
A:Captain is a young, hip person who lives practically inside her house dreaming up podcasts so you guys can have a little fun. L is fresh from the Crackerjack Motel (wink, wink) and loves to prattle on about useless stuff.

2.) Q: Where do you guys live?
A: We live in Western New York, yes darlings that aint New York City or Upstate try going east for that.

3.) Q: How did you get into Star Trek?
A: Captain Toy (the one who is writing this little Q&A by the way) got into Star Trek around 1990 in and &the time I went to first grade. (Now figure out my age-I dare ya!) I got a section of a TNG episode in my head (of Troi running around some twisted corridors) and tried to find out what episode it came from. (It Came from Dark PageFYI) I tore through my fathers collection of TNG tapes and found that not only was I like TNG but I was obsessed with it. Since then I have never looked back.
L actually watched The Original Series when it aired back in the 1960s. While obsessed with it, never got to see the episodes again or watch any of the other series until recently. Now he enjoys TNG & DS9 (hasnt seen the others yet) almost as much as he loved TOS.

4.) Q: How is the podcast made?
A: Now that aint the million dollar question, should I really tell you the answer? LOL, seriously I would be glad to. I know how hard it was for me to get started
We use two USB headsets while recording on a software mixer called KIRISTAL (http://www.kreatives.org/kristal/). It is free for personal use (like us-we aint making profit) so check it out! We do all post work using Audacity, another free program. It is actually just about as good as pro-programs but way, way cheaper! We did use PodProducer and it does provide some cool effects that you can play on the fly but sadly we have been forced to abandon it due to lack of abilities. When we started, we did use free bandwidthfrom switchpod.com (we still use their site). It is a great way to get started and to get the taste of podcasting and when you are ready you can upgrade to paid. (We pay about 5 bucks a month for the feed). You get nifty stuff like stats and ftp abilities and so much more! We actually upgraded to get more room and get the stats the rest is just icing on the cake.

5.) Q: What inspired you to do podcasting?
A: I am a BIG fan of podcasts! I listen to as many podcasts as I can. I started listening to podcasts through a show called TWIT (This Week In Tech)[http://www.twit.tv/] it is madeby my favorite TV personality that few have heard of Leo Laporte. When they moved to a podcast format, I followed and even borrowed one line from that show. (Can you guess what?) Beyond TWIT, I have been inspired by Look At His Butt. (http://lookathisbutt.blogspot.com/) They have now over 50 episodes and counting and I have been listing sine somewhere in the teens. You should take a listen to their podcast and see how cool it is to talk about Shatners butt. Finally, I have been inspired by one other show, The Love Long And Prosper Podcast. (http://www.lovelongandprosper.com/) My pals Dan & CJ have been entertaining me since shortly before I started podcasting. Their Private Quarters segment showed me how cool doing story time can be so I gave into Ls demands and created our version of it. Came out well didnt it?

6.) Q: Whats next?
A: Well, we still need to do some more improvements to the show. We have come a long way from our first episode when we had little clue what we were doing and how to do it. I would like to see a more cohesiveshow and to work on getting shows out on a more regular basis. (Matching schedules can be tough). Beyond that, I want to add our show to the SCIFI Podcast Network when I feel we are ready.

Also, I would like more viewer participation in the show. We know you are out there (over 170 of ya) but we havent heard from you guys! Send us your comments, questions & concerns, hell even if you wish to bash us we would love to hear it! It says at least you are listening, now doesnt it?

7.) Q: When is the next episode coming out?
A: LOL, now this I hear a lot from Dan (I love you!). We just got an episode out this week and plan to record one today. (Assuming all goes well and L gets his butt over here) So provably early next week sometime.

Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoyed learning a bit more about the podcast and the people who run it, I certainly did. (Wink, Wink) See you next time! Captain Toy

Levar & Marina discuss ST:TNG movies

I don't quite agree that Nemesis totally sucked there was some really great stuff in it but some really pathelic stuff too. (Like the ending - after Data's death or the entire B4 thing) still I would love to see another TNG movie if only to prevent them from making a stupid young kirk and spock movie.
